At the Institut für Diabetes-Technologie (IfDT), we conduct clinical trials with medical devices in a welcoming, familiar atmosphere and offer our international customers expertise in all parts of clinical studies: starting from planning and designing over conduction up to publishing the study results.
In addition, we perform research on our own behalf regarding different aspects of diabetes.
Taken all this together made us a globally recognized and acknowledged research institute in the area of diabetes technology.
We are happy if you want to actively support us in our research for the benefit of people with diabetes mellitus type 1 or type 2.

August 2023 - CGM
To support the work of the IFCC working group on CGM, we have compiled an overview of the studies on CGM accuracy over the last 20 years. The focus was not on the results, but rather on the methodology, i.e. the selected study designs and evaluation. Based on this, we make recommendations for the standardized reporting of CGM accuracy studies.
April 2023 - Glucose
In studies on the accuracy of CGM systems, the interstitial glucose concentrations of the CGM system are compared with either capillary blood or venous blood samples. In the past, differences in the glucose concentrations of the different samples have been reported. We have now systematically investigated this in a study.
February 2023 - CGM
We were engaged by the non-governmental, non-profit organization FIND to test 3 CGM systems in parallel. Two of them are already available on the market, one is still under development. The background to the tests was FIND's goal of making CGM systems available in low- and middle-income countries.
02 - 04 November 2023
This year, the JA-PED took place in our home town Ulm. Although we were not represented in the scientific program this time, we were present with our small diabetes technology museum.
02 - 04 November 2023
At this annual Diabetes Technology Meeting, which was still completely virtual, we were again mainly representing the topic of CGM standardization. At the pre-meeting on November 1, the IFCC working group even had its own symposium. Dr. Freckmann and Dr. Pleus presented the results of the IFCC working group's latest publications. John Pemberton and Dr. Rolf Hinzmann were also invited to contribute. In the main meeting on November 2, Dr. Eichenlaub presented our newly developed method of displaying CGM accuracy - CG-DIVA.
22 - 23 September 2023
The annual conference of the Diabetes and Technology Working Group of the German Diabetes Society (AGDT) took place on September 22 and 23, 2023 under the motto "Technology - Together. From practice for practice". Dr. Freckmann has been a member of the AGDT board for several years and made the institute's grounds and rooms available for the conference. The conference was attended by a total of around 110 participants. Dr. Freckmann gave a lecture on "CGM in hospitals - data and legal issues" and took part in the scientific exchange with some.
We are happy if you want to actively support us in our research for the benefit of people with diabetes type 1 or type 2.
In this way, you are making your own personal contribution to improving medical care.
We are looking forward to meet you!
